The menace of ritual killing and organ harvesting

The end of year in Nigeria is a time everyone looks forward to as holiday. It is also one of the most dangerous times as the rate of ritual killings and human organ harvesting increases. Everyday numerous lives are lost to this terrible circumstance and it is sad that there is little or nothing done to arrest the evil act.

People traveling are always threatened as our highways are now death traps. If it is not armed robbers, it’s terrorists, kidnappers or ritualists. And even with the presence of police at checkpoints on these highways, these occurrences have sadly become the news headline almost everyday.

The news is always about dead bodies found in one ditch or the other, or it is corpses missing in the mortuary. You can’t help but wonder where it all went wrong and what is the government doing to curb these atrocities in the society.

Nigeria is plagued by this devilish and unholy act of people or groups of people who kidnap and slaughter human beings in cold blood, and to top it all on this barbaric behaviour they still go ahead and dissect these human persons like animals from the farm.

Sometimes you wonder if these people don’t have an ounce of sympathy or humanity left in them. The urge to get rich quick in Nigeria has left some of its youths to go into such criminal lifestyle and kidnapping people just for the sole purpose of harvesting their internal and genital organs just to sell to the highest bidder or for ritual.

Recently, there was video circulating the internet of some unknown gun men killing and slaughtering people like animals, and removing their internal organs while recording everything on camera! The lack of fear and the pride they had in displaying those barbaric acts while chanting songs praising each other was so disturbing to watch, you can only wonder how come these people are never traced and given the full wrath of the law. In this video it was clearly shown how almost four fully grown adults were being cut to pieces in the most graphic and most barbaric way possible.

Life is sacred, but these criminals seem not to care as they go about their nefarious activities as if they are invincible and untouchable. They go ahead killing innocent people with no remorse for the effects it will have on the loved ones of these victims; the dreams and ambitions shattered by evil people who just want to get rich quick and through devilish means. They don’t even feel like they can be punished for these crimes as they comfortably record and post themselves doing all these things on social media.

The media have been in the fore front of reporting various cases of this vicious activity as many news stories and feature articles have covered the dangers and effects of these crimes of ritual killing and kidnappings. But it seems the government tends to be quiet about this plaguing issue.

Government has to do all in its power to make sure these organ harvesters and ritual killers pay for their crime of taking innocent lives and make sure security agencies work tirelessly in safeguarding the highways to avoid kidnappings as that’s where the crime most likely begins.

It is the sole responsibility of the government to ensure that the lives of its citizens are protected and safeguarded against untimely death from the hands of these ritual killers and organ harvesters.

The government should make it a priority and make it an all hands on deck situation to make sure its citizens are safe as it is also their constitutional right.

Another issue is how these ritual organ harvesters have taken their operations into cities where they snatch people’s genitals especially male ones. It has caused public apprehension as people are now scared to associate in public with the fear of their private parts being stolen through diabolical means.

It was reported on the news and all over social media of various cases of these happenings especially In cities like Abuja and Lagos. But surprisingly there have been speculations that this menace has reached the door steps of Maiduguri metropolitan as it has been reported in various parts of the city that such occurrence has been happening.

The question of how safe the citizens are against these criminals is on an uncertainty level as we can only hope and pray that the government in conjunction with the security agencies work efficiently in eradicating this terrible activity from our society for a better state and country.

The safety of innocent citizens should be guaranteed even as they ply these highways on different trips to different places in the country especially during festive seasons.
