The dangers of drug abuse

Drug abuse is now one of the major ways destroying Nigerians who have subscribed to taking sedative drugs without a doctor’s prescription. The victims of drug abuse wrongly think that getting high will help them in overcoming depression and other ill-advised ways to a moderate level.

However, the coming of General Mohammed Buba Marwa into office as NDLEA chairman has exposed how Nigerians became addicted with drug misuse. This is because, it’s hard to wake-up any day without reading news of the arrest of sedative drugs smugglers at Nigerian borders or airports.

We have to remind ourselves that misuse of such substances would not take away sad situations that we get into. Our many years dreaming of becoming self reliant as well as having a bright future cannot be actualised with this unwelcome development full of shortsightedness. We have to think and act reasonably in doing everything which is likely to damage our budding careers.

The recent disorderliness of our country could be attributed to drug abuse as 80% of perpetrators who had been brought to book are the victims of drug abuse. Their brainwashed masters would furnish them with illicit drugs and assign them to cause mayhem in the country. As such, why shouldn’t we remember that they have children that they can act the way we can? But because they don’t want to ruin their children’s future careers, they intentionally misuse us in such bad ways.

Sadly, all these drug syndicates or kingpins are Nigerians who can beat their chests in front of anybody and be proud of being Nigerians. Alas, they are annihilating Nigeria. Please, let us save our country and her citizens from blackmailing.

I would like to, therefore, urge all patriotic Nigerians to support NDLEA chairman and his team in the fight against drug abuse and the ruthless dealers of illicit drugs in order to prevent ourselves from being ruined as a result of taking sedative drugs and to uphold our country’s positive future.
