Technology Center to fast track innovations, development- Onu

 

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that Technology Orientation Center (TOC), built by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), would help entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators would fast track the commercialisation of inventions using indigenous technologies.

The minister, who disclosed this recently at the official commissioning of the Center at Idu in Abuja, said the center would enable Nigerians develop skilled human resources that will stimulate research and development as well as drive the new National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (2017-2030), which is vital to the diversification of the Nigerian economy.

Onu said that it would also complement the cardinal objectives of the Presidential Executive Order No 5, which sought to promote self-reliance “in our quest for rebirth as a modern nation of enhanced industrial capacity, especially in the areas of new and emerging technologies.

“This will enable Nigeria emerge a stronger nation of reduced capital flight, strengthened manpower development capacity, enhanced indigenous technology ability and a restored national pride”. Onu added.

Earlier, the Chief Executive of the agency, Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna, said that the center would provide budding entrepreneurs, academics researchers and investors the enabling environment for interactions, design, application and exhibition of advanced manufacturing technologies with their accompanying products and services
