Sule v Ombugadu: Police beef up security in Nasarawa ahead Appeal Court judgement

The Nasarawa state Police Command has beefed up security around the state ahead of the Court of Appeal judgment between Governor Abdullahi Sule and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) David Ombugadu in the 2023 governorship election.

Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, DCP Shettima Muhammad, dropped this hint during a press briefing in Lafia, Monday.

The Acting CP explained that the police in collaboration with other security agencies had deployed personnel to strategic areas across the state to curtail any possible breakdown of law and order after the judgment, expected to be decided any time soon.

DCP Shettima noted that the security operatives had been placed on red alert to respond promptly to any activity and actions capable of fomenting trouble; and called on political leaders in the state to caution their supporters on the need to maintain peace before and after the court judgment.

“I hereby call on leaders of all political parties to prevail on their supporters to shun unguarded utterances that may trigger political tension or engage in mass action that may be seen as preparation for violent procession and also celebrate moderately without infringing on the fundamental rights of members of the public,” he cautioned.

Governor Abdullahi Sule had appealed the nullification of his election in a split judgment of two to one at the tribunal.
