Sports Minister ‘putting pressure on NFF to appoint Amuneke’

A top official has pointedly accused Sports Minister John Enoh of putting pressure on the NFF to appoint his own candidate, Emmanuel Amuneke, as the new Super Eagles coach.

The NFF technical committee has named Enyimba coach Finidi George as the preferred choice for the Super Eagles coach after the Sports Minister had overruled it on the hiring of a foreign coach to lead the country’s team.

The Minister has also told the NFF the Government will not foot the salary of a foreign coach and as such they should look inwards for the man to take charge of the Super Eagles.

“The Minister clearly wants Amuneke to be the next coach of the Super Eagles,” an furious official told SCORENigeria.

“He has even gone ahead to accuse the NFF of being biased because they did not consider Amuneke as the best man for the job.”

The NFF have before now enjoyed a cordial working relationship with the Minister and they do not wish to rock the boat.

“The NFF are now torn between going along with the choice of the Minister and sacrificing the man they believe will do a better job with the national team,” the official continued.

“They are even afraid not to offend the Minister because he represents the Government.”

“The appointment of a coach is the call of the NFF, but in the end they may lose that responsibility to the Minister,” the official further lamented.
