Short-sightedness, poor leadership bane of Nigeria’s growth – OlaOlu Ali

A legal luminary, Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali SAN, has identified leadership characterized by short-sighted vision, as bane of Nigeria’s growth and development over the years.

Ali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria  made this known while delivering the 31st Founder’s day lecture of LUBCON GROUP; an indigenous lubricant company in Kwara state in Ilorin.

The lecture is with the  titled, ‘Preparing for, getting to and staying at the top’, 

According to the legal icon, Nigeria had over the years lacked leaders with large vision that could galvanize its wealth to appreciable level among comity of nations.

Ali, who lamented layback attitude of many Nigerians to degree of performance of their leaders, said that the people appeared satisfied

with features and level of whatever programmes and policies of such leaders.

He said such attitude among the people was the reason why the country and its leaders had remained under-performed for many years.

Going forward, called on Nigerian leaders to exhibit vision and mission to move the country to the next level of development, adding: “The time to cause change is now and it should not be delayed for the next generation to resolve.

Also speaking, the Chairman/Technical adviser of the Company, Engr Jani Ibrahim, lamented over the distress nature of the Nigerian economy, saying it is challenged.

Ibrahim said government could better manage the present economic challenges bedeviling it by controlling the problems based on the features of its immediate environment.

Although he agreed that the economic challenges is global, Ibrahim nevertheless advised government to control the present inflation, loss of revenue, especially in the oil sector, stressing that “alarm bell is ringing”.

“There’s the need to manage the situation critically. There’s now mass exodus of professionals out of the country due to unfavourable economic climate, leading to loss of best talents in the country. To individuals, one should not enter into investment one is not sure or conversant with,” he said.

At the ceremony, the deputy governor of Kwara State, Mr Kayode Alabi, assured entrepreneurs of the desires of government to create enabling environment for ease of doing business.
