Adamawa state chapter of the people’s Democratic party ( PDP) has condemned and disassociate itself from the unfortunate attitude of sen.Elisha ishiaku Abbo ( Adamawa North).
The senator was seen in a video that went viral on social madia allegedly assaulting a nursing mother.
The party has appealed to the Senate which already constituted a committee to investigate the senator to show magnanimity and temper justice with mercy especially now that, the senator has apologise to Nigerians, the Senate, the victim and her family over his unfortunate attitude.
Speaking Thursday in a press conference at the party secretariat in yola, Adamawa state PDP chairman Barrister.A.T Shehu said that the embattled senator has learnt his lesson the hard way and called on Nigerians, the Senate and the victim and her family to give him another chance.
“We the people of Adamawa state and in particular the members of the people’s Democratic party( PDP) are irked by the over reactiveness of sen. Elisha ishaku Abbi. Men of honour and particularly elected legislative officers should not, either in private or public molest assault or degrade any person, more so, a woman. We cannot fathom any acceptable reason for the action of the senator. We therefore, condemn and distance ourselves from this unruly behaviour”
“It is in public domain that the leadership of the Senate has constituted a panel to investigate the circumstances of the incidence. We support in totality the action of the Senate. However, we wish to call on the Senate panel to show magnanimity and temper justice with mercy. It should not be used as vendetta against sen.Abbo as being clamoured by some interest groups”. He said.
According to the party to err is human but to forgive is divine and called on Nigerians to forgive him assuring that the incident will not happened again.
“We wish to state that every human being has the propensity to err and only the divine can forgive. It is upon this premise that we call upon the lady who was assaulted and her immediate family to forgive the excesses of sen. Abbo. We equally plead with the generality of Nigerians particularly the female folks to find space in their hearts to forgive him, more so that he has tendered an unreserved apology to the lady and her family “
