Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has given approval for the payment of workers’ salaries for the month of June, this year.
Blueprint gathered that already, the Ministry of Finance had made payments to banks and workers would begin to receive payment alerts from their banks from as from Wednesday (yesterday).
A statement issued by the Director of Press Affairs to the Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, yesterday said the approval also covered the payment of pensions for the month.
The measure, the statement added, was meant to ensure that workers and their families celebrated the Eid el-Fitr “with some ease.”
The statement read in part: “The early payment of salaries for the month segue closely with what the Gaidam administration has been doing since inception – making sure that workers smile home with their salaries at the end of every month without fail.
“The June salary payments also came at a time that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting, which disburses funds to federal, state and local governments, has yet to even begin for the month’s disbursements.

“That the Yobe state government, under Governor Gaidam, has never for once failed to pay its workers, and continues to pay them regularly while executing numerous development projects in healthcare, education, road, agriculture, etc., goes to show the degree to which Governor Gaidam adheres to a regime of financial discipline and a resource management style that is demonstrably prudent and transparent.”
