Russia 2018: Nigeria Super Eagles name final World Cup

Following Nigeria friendly game with England on Saturday, the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has finally named his 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup slated for Russia. Having already trimmed down the provisional squad to 25 before the friendly game which the Th ree Lions won 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, Rohr was left with the decision of dropping two players from the roster, and ‘unlucky’ duo axed the Eagles squd are the Chelsea defender Ola Aina and Mikel Agu of FC Porto. Leicester City midfi elder Wilfred Ndidi, who has been a major injury concern, has made the final cut, while Russia-based defender Brian Idowu and FC Crotone striker Simeon Nwankwo are the two players who are yet to make an offi cial debut for the team. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the final squad through their Twitter account. Both Aina and Agu will, however, travel with the team to Russia as they are placed on standby. John Mikel Obi is top on the list which has three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfi elders as well as six forwards. The goalkeepers are Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Enyimba), Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United/RSA), and Francis Uzoho (Deportivo La Coruna/ ESP).
