Relief for Fubara as Labour Party withdraws governorship election petition from court

As the political feud between Rivers state governor Siminalayi Fubara and his former boss Nyesom Wike persists, Labour Party (LP) has announced the withdrawal of its petition challenging the election victory of the former, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 gubernatorial election in the State

The Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Lagos had previously dismissed LP’s petition against Fubara’s election.

The Labour Party had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling of the appellate court.

Speaking on recent political developments in Rivers on Saturday, the LP’s gubernatorial candidate in the election, Beatrice Itubo, confirmed the party’s decision to drop the case.
