Politicians worsen fight against insecurity— Rotary gov

The Governor, Rotary International, District 9125, Dr. Victor Onukwugha, Monday, accused politicians of worsening the fight against insecurity.

Onukwugha spoke in Abuja at a positive peace workshop for senior secondary schools organized by Rotary Club of Abuja Metro, Rotary Club of Abuja, Maitama and Rotary Club of Abuja, Asokoro Diamond in collaboration with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution.

The rotary governor, who accused the political class of not setting good example, which according to him, fuelled the righting insecurity in the country,  pleaded with government to act fast in order to restore peace across the country.

“As students, do not mind what is happening with the political class. They are not setting good examples. The world has become a global village and everybody is preaching peace. As students, wherever your school is you are going to compete with other students across the world. So let us all see ourselves as one.

The Director General, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Bakut Bakut, said everyone must work together to ensure peace in the country.

The IPCR boss who was represented by Director, Internal Conflict resolution, Hepzibah Achanya said: “IPCR welcomes any positive development to promote peace. One of the mandates of the institute is peace education.

“ICPR is also committed in providing Africa with policy options based on result- oriented research while building capacity inter-culture to enable Africa emerges as a secured peaceful and democratic continent where the principle of the Rule of Law and human dignity is protected and respected.

The keynote speaker, Rev. Fr. Cornelius Omonokhua noted that the solution to conflict is education.

Omonokhua said when the youths from different religions collaborate in peace project; all will be convinced that there is nothing wrong with religion.

 “Education is not a one and for all projects. Education on earth ends the day a person dies. After home training and formal education, learning continues through interactions on a daily basis. Existing relationship makes conflict management, resolution and transformation easy.

“Visiting the national mosque regularly enabled me to establish a dialogue relationship between some Christian and Muslim youths who have expressed the need for religious re-education in Nigeria’, he said.
