Police, NSCDC foil attack on Kaduna traffic agency

Men of the Nigeria Police and National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Thursday dispersed protesting commercial motorcycle riders who stormed three offices of Kaduna State Traffic law Enforcement Authority (KASTEA) located at Zaria, premises of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and its zonal office on Sokoto Road respectively.

The Okada riders allegedly intended to set the offices ablaze over the killing of one of their colleagues.  The aggrieved cyclists besieged Zaria City on motorcycles to set the building on fire but were dispersed with teargas after they blocked Kofar Doka Roundabout.

After being dispersed by security agencies, the protesting cyclist headed to the Emir of Zazzau’s palace in Zaria city to lodge their complaint against the murder of their colleagues.

The Emir, Alhaji Shehu Idris assured the aggrieved cyclists that thorough investigation would be conducted to know how and why the incident happened and that the culprits would be brought to book.

Commenting on the incident, assistant general manager of the agency in charge it’s zonal office in Zaria, Mallam Salihu Magaji told Blueprint that it was an accident in which the cyclist rammed into the agency’s operational Hilux Van at a U-turn near First Bank, Zaria City as a result of which he sustained injury and was rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria for medical attention.

Magaji said necessary measures would be taken to prevent against future re-occurrence of the  incident.
