PCRC wants Nigeria’s security agencies strengthened

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has called for an urgent effort to strengthen security agencies in the country to meet the growing insecurity challenges facing Nigeria.

The PCRC said the escalating insecurity in the country represents no little threat to both the nation’s nascent democracy and the lives and properties of all Nigerians.

The committee said recent measures adopted to counter crimes and criminals have fallen short and therefore urged the authorities to strengthen security apparatus and ensure constant dialogue with the police hierarchy and other security agencies.

The body, which held its maiden national security capacity building workshop in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital in conjunction with Kano and Jigawa states respectively, said the federal government must give strengthening the agencies more than casual attention.

Addressing the participants, the representatives of PCRC across the South-west, North-east and North-west, said the committee was determined to affect the society positively, adding that it would soon establish a radio station in Abuja.

When established, he said the station would advocate the policies of the government against criminal elements and the strategies for fighting crimes and fishing out criminals from their hideouts.

The deputy Force Public Relations Officers (PRO), Force Headquarters, Abuja, Aremu Sikiru Adeniran, said the workshop was designed to effect partnership with police with a view to improving their relationship with respective communities.
