Overloading: Kano FRSC reads riot act to commuters

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano state has warned commercial drivers against overloading their vehicles with excessive goods and passengers in goods compartment (boots).

This is contained in a statement signed by the FRSC Sector command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kabir Ibrahim and made available to newsmen in Kano yesterday.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps has observed with dismay the attitude of some drivers who overload their vehicles with excessive goods and passengers. This attitude is more common among Golf, Vectra and mini buses drivers who even go to the extent of carrying passengers in goods compartment,” he said.

Ibrahim said the sector Command had completed plans to embark on a special operation to clamp down on “perpetrators of this ugly trend as overloading has been identified as one of the major causes of road traffic crashes.”

He called on drivers and commercial vehicle owners to cooperate with the Command in its effort to ensuring safer motoring environment in the state and beyond, by adhering strictly to traffic rules and regulations.

“The FRSC in the state will not fold its arms and watch innocent lives and property being wasted to this avoidable attitude.”
