Osun: Woman in court for ‘possession of 4.7kg of cannabis sativa’

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Thursday arraigned a woman, Okunola Madinat, before a federal high court, Osogbo, Osun state, for alleged unlawful possession of 4.7kg of cannabis sativa.

The prosecutor, Olufemi Ijimakin, alleged that the defendant committed the purported crime along Gbongan-Ibadan expressway, on December 14, 2023.

The charge sheet reads in part: “That you Okunola Madinat ‘f’ adult, without lawful knowingly had in your possession 4.7kg of cannabis sativa, a  narcotic drug similar to cocaine, LSD, heroin, and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 19 of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one count of unlawful possession of cannabis sativa pressed against her.

Her counsel, Emma Idehen, urged the court to grant her bail in the most liberal term, promising that she would stand her trial.

Justice Mashkur Salisu thereby granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 15, for trial.
