On the spate of bomb blasts in Abuja

BombsIt is quite unfortunate that Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has become a war zone of sorts, a place where bombs are detonated at will. As residents of the city are still recovering from the dastardly blasts at Nyanya, another one occurred at Emab Plaza at Wuse 11.
This ugly development definitely calls for concern among Nigerians everywhere in the world. As one of the fastest growing capital cities in the world, this situation is surely sending a very bad signal across the comity of nations.

There is the need for the federal government to do everything within its powers to bring this “war’’ to an end. If this is allowed to continue in the seat of government, then I am afraid that the whole country will soon be overrun. It is just a matter of time. And it is quite unfortunate that Nigerians are now afraid to go to Abuja for any business whatsoever.

The federal government should be proactive so that this menace will stop. It is believed that security agencies are doing their best possible, but they are expected to do more.
Unfortunately, one of the causalities of the recent bomb blast at Emab Shopping Complex was an intelligent and hardworking journalist, Mallam Suleiman Bissalla. Any ardent reader of Daily Trust newspapers when he served there would appreciate his laudable contributions to national development through his write-ups.

He later became the Managing Editor (Northern Operations) of New Telegraph, a position he held until his unfortunate death.
Let me use this opportunity to remind all Nigerians that security is a collective responsibility. We should therefore do everything possible to support our security agencies as they struggle to bring these senseless killings to an end.
