Okorocha donates N10m to Benue flood victims

Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, on behalf of the Rochas Foundation, yesterday announced a donation of N10 million to fl ood victims in Benue s

Okorocha made the donation while addressing the Benue fl ood Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Makurdi Ultra Modern International Market Camp.

He, accompanied by the Kebbi state Governor, Atiku Bagudu, said though he was in the state for the Progressive Governors’ Forum, adding that he was touched by the plight of the IDPs, particularly the children, and had to make the donation.

He stated that he was sent by the APC Governors on a fact-fi nding mission and to pay solidarity on the victims ravaged by the fl ood disaster, noting that while on air he had assessed the fl ood and was worried at the extent the fl ood had covered.

“When I was coming I made my assessment on air and I saw how Benue is fl ooded, but my worry is if this rain continue for the next one week I don’t know what will become of Benue state.

I call for urgent action and some major step to be taken immediately to bring a permanent solution to the fl ood disaster,” he said.

He said he believed that despite numerous challenges facing the state, including the fl ood, Fulani invasion and issues of delay in payment of salaries, the governor and government of the state would eventually surmount it.

Okorocha also said they were only sent to see the situation and would go back and mobilised relief materials which would be sent to the victims.
