Obiano presents 2020 budget of N137.1bn

Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has presented the 2020 appropriation estimate of N137.1 billion to the state House of Assembly.

The budget entitled “Accelerating Infrastructural Development and Youth Empowerment,’ is less than 2019 Budget estimate of N157.1 billion, entitled “Budget for sustained Economic Growth and Youth Empowerment’’.

Presenting the budget to the assembly, the governor explained that the budget was designed for sustenance of his past performance as well as to ensure that Anambra state continuously maintain its status as hub for business and a destination for new investment.

A breakdown of the budget shows that 43 per cent (about N58.69bn) is allocated for current expenditure, while 57 per cent (about N78.3bn) is for capital expenditure.

Similarly, a total sum of N22.2bn was budgeted for road and bridge construction, N6bn for Anambra state international airport project, education (N8.3bn), while environment has N2.9bn.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Uche Okafor, who officiated the plenary, after commending the governor for keeping to his four pillar of economic drive, referred the appropriation to state House of Assembly committee on Budget and Finance having past first reading.
