Rivers: NYSC DG cautions new Corps members against divisional tendencies

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim. has charged prospective corps members deployed to Rivers state to key into the main objective of the NYSC scheme which is unity and integration
Brig. Gen Ibrahim also asked the new NYSC entrants to do away with the stereotype prejudices held against each section of the country.


He gave the charge at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai, while addressing the new corps members of 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 deployed to Rivers state during his visit to the camp. 
The NYSC chief executive called on the prospective corps members to be disciplined, focused and committed in all they do on camp, during the service and beyond. 


He took his time to explain the four cardinal programmes of the scheme.
He called on them to make their service year impactful in the lives of members of their host community when they will be posted for their primary assignment by initiating and executing Community Development Service (CDS) projects which must be in line with the felt-need of the host community. 
Gen Shuaibu listed the benefits of executing a CDS project which impact positively on the lives of the people of the host community to include a commendation letter personally signed by Mr. President, automatic employment in any federal ministry of the beneficiaries’ choice and a scholarship for post graduate studies in Nigeria or abroad. 


Speaking further, he urged them to be security conscious at all times by not embarking on night travels, not to keep late nights, not to embark on unauthorized journeys, not to keep friends of questionable character and not to engage in any kind of misconduct that can hurt their future.
The NYSC helmsman assured the prospective corps that their future is bright and encouraged them to develop the spirit of strategic planning to achieve their goals in life. He further urged them to take the Skill Acquisition training on camp and post camp seriously so as to be self-reliant and job creators after service. 


The prospective corps members appreciated the DG for the visit with a thunderous three hearty cheers. 
Gen Shuaibu was accompanied to the visit by the Ag. Director Special Duties, Mr. James Adeola Afolayan.
