NURTW boss faults members’ protests

The chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Imo state chapter, Comrade Okebaram Izuchukwu, has faulted yesterday’s
protests at Government House by some people believed to be his members.
The protesters had driven to the gate of Imo Government House with their private vehicles, demanding that Governor Rochas Okorocha should reduce the N60,000 levy on private car owners to change the colour of their vehicles to the state government approved colour; extend the deadline which was to expire on Wednesday; exclude the tracking of their personal vehicles since they are not the ones brought out by government, among other things.
But while reacting to the protests, the NURTW chairman, described the protesters as hoodlums who did not follow his earlier instruction but resorted to their own way to heat up the polity. He maintained that his authentic members were already seated in their office to hear the latest from him while the hoodlums went about protesting.
Izuchukwu, who regretted that the Commissioner of Transport, Chief Lasbrey Okafor Anyanwu, was not on seat when his leadership called, said the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, who stood in for him, assured them that everything about the issues mentioned above had been suspended until the return of the commissioner and urged them to go about their normal businesses.
