NUJ tasks political office holders on accountability, prudence

Chairman, Kogi state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ali Atabor, has stressed the need for people in positions of authority to be responsible, responsive, diligent, accountable, prudent and service-oriented.
He gave the charge yesterday in Isanlu, headquarters of Yagba East local government area while leading journalists on an assessment tour of projects under the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) in the council.
Atabor, who commended the chairman of the local government, Otunba  Funsho  Ibrahim, for his diligent execution of SURE-P projects,  noted that the projects under SURE-P were those designed to address critical areas of human needs.

He called on the council chairman to endeavour to complete projects on Phases 1 and 2 of the programme.
Earlier, the chairman of the council, said his administration had tried to execute projects which had direct bearing on the lives of the people, adding that “this has address some of their basic challenges.”
He said the council under his leadership had been able to concentrate on improving the epileptic power supply in the area, like Idofin-Makutu, and Jege-Ife-Olukotu 33KVA power line each.

He added that his administration had also paid special attention to women and youths development, saying that no fewer than 120 women and youths had been trained in different vocation, with grant of N50, 000 to each of them to start their own businesses.
He commended the NUJ for the initiative of embarking on the assessment of projects as part of their constitutional responsibility, to hold public office holders accountable to the people.
