Kano state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf, has expressed the resolve of his Command to take punitive steps against kidnappers in the state.
Speaking at a one-day Round Table Discussion on Sensitisation of the Public on Prevention and Reducing Prevalent Cases of Abduction of Children in Kano state organised by Conflict Management and Mitigation Regional Council (CMMRC) and Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC) Kaduna, Yusuf said abduction was an abominable crime that must be confronted with vigour.

According to him, it was a sad commentary for one to have his young child blatantly abducted and held in captivity by those who lacked decorum, compassion and pity affirming that the penchant for easy lucre had stampeded the perpetrators of such an illicit business into what in the end would portend a great disaster to them for the rest of their lives.
Yusuf, who was represented by the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, said the Police offensive against the abduction kingpins could not be sustained and completed, without active community participation in complementing the effort of the Police for the war to be realistic and holistic.

He said the time was ripe for parents to be alive to the responsibility of ensuring that their children were kept under strict surveillance and proper care in the face of the disturbing menace stressing the need for good Samaritans to remain committed in keeping the Police posted on “any suspicious movement that can lead to the arrest of suspected kidnappers.”

In his remarks, the Secretary-General, Conflict Management and Mitigation Regional Council Kano, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad, said the one-day sensitisation Round Table Discussion was convened to enlighten the general public on the need to forge a synergy with the Police and relevant security agents on how to tackle disturbing cases of child abduction.
He also stressed the need for active collaboration with the media for the crusade against child abduction to be feasible, pointing out that relegating the media to the background would make mockery of the entire struggle.
