Nigeria to domesticate satellite technology

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has launched three satellites in Nigeria, adding that more effort has been geared towards ensuring the domestication of satellite technology in the country.

The Director-General NASRDA, Dr. Jonathan Angulu stated this at the ongoing science and technology expo in Abuja.

He urged scientists to put in more effort in improving their skills in designing and manufacturing of satellite. “We have substantially launched three satellites, one of the satellites was designed and manufacture by our scientists. And I pray that you will build on what you have done in the past.”

The Minister of Science and Technology represented by the Director of Science, Technology and Promotion of the ministry, Dr. Udoh Ekanem, noted the importance of space technology in impacting the lives of Nigerians and its acceptance by the people through the many inventions being showcased by innovators from the private and government sectors at the ongoing expo.

“What we are seeing today, I can describe it as the gallant of science and technology. You can confirm this by visiting the stand of the agencies of science and technology, by visiting the stands of the state governments, technology entrepreneurs and the military,” he noted.

In his lecture, the Director Policy Planning and Research NASRDA Dr. Francis Chizea said the defence space administration of NASRDA work closely with security Agencies by providing them data and application to help curb insurgency. With respect to the issue of the covid 19 disease, he also noted that NASRDA already covering the whole of Nigeria could also help in tracking movement of individuals in clusters, and advise the government on the necessary action to be taken.
