‘Nigeria records 10m out-of-school children’

Statistics have shown that Nigeria recorded over 10 million out of school children, out of which over 80,000 children were from Zamfara state, the chairman, Zamfara state Universal Basic Education Board (ZUBEB), Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Maradun, has said.

He spoke at the official flag off of the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle at the Government House, Monday.

He said the ratio was alarming, adding that, the Zamfara state government under the leadership of Governor Matawalle has declared a state of emergency on education to breach the gab for the development of the state.

He said the state government, through its board had selected over 282 schools for the implementation of BESDA program across  Zamfara state, out of which over 39,000 almaji child and over 29,000 girls were selected to be engaged in the program this year.

The SUBEB chairman further stated that his board has constructed additional  1,000 class rooms across the state for the BESDA program as over 6,000 qualified teachers were promoted after over 10 years without been promoted.

He added that the aim of BESDA scheme is to complement the federal government effort to ensure all children have access to primary, secondary and tertiary education, while commending the state government under the leadership of Governor Matawalle for the support given to his board and education sector for better future generations in the state.
