All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State chapter has dismissed what it terms ‘wicked rumour’ peddled by ‘economic saboteurs’ against the second tenure bid of incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
The party said neither the campaign of calumny nor bad breathe against the candidature of the President and the APC as a political party would succeed in inhibiting the re-election of President Buhari and the APC come 2019.
Instead of hurting the second term bid, the party said agitators have only smoothened the success path of both President Buhari and the APC, stressing that the quantum of projects successfully executed by the APC administration within the Niger Delta region alone would guarantee the President’s return in 2019.
The State APC chairman, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, who stated this in a statement through his Media Consultant, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, listed some of the projects being undertaken in Rivers State and the Niger Delta by the APC federal administration to buttress his argument.
Also, the statement recalled that many sons and daughters of the region have been appointed into sensitive positions in ministries and agencies by the Buhari-led federal administration.
The party said the re-election of President Buhari in the region is a foregone conclusion, stressing that agitation against it being sponsored by looters’ in the previous governments would not deter it from winning in the forthcoming 2019 general election.
“The party will not be deterred by the antecedents of these enemies of our country and will not cease to highlight the benefits that are accruable to Nigeria and Nigerians if President Buhari succeeds come 2019”,
“These looters are fully aware of what the re-election of President Buhari entails as it will constitute a challenge to their keeping and securing their loots but we will not allow them to come back in order to continue their looting spree from where they stopped in 2015 no matter the odds”, the statement said.
Further, the party stated that the APC-led federal administration under President Buhari has proved within less than three years that the APC has the best interest of the State and region at heart by the various interventions the federal government has embarked upon in the region within the last three years and will surely be supported for his second term bid.
Finally, the APC urged the people of Niger Delta to consider the interests President Buahri have demonstrated in the region and not to make the 2015 blunder where they mistakenly supported a ‘son’ who failed the region woefully.
