NGO to Gombe govt: Release N230m hospital equipment fund

A Non-governmental Organisation, Network for Maternal and Newborn Child Health Initiative in Gombe state, has appealed to the state government to release the N230 million budgeted for the procurement of dialysis machines for the state Specialist Hospital.
Chairman of the NGO, Malam Alhssan Yahya, made the appeal when he led other members on an advocacy visit to the State Ministry of of Health Gombe on Friday.
His word: “If the dialysis machines were procured, the facility would assist patients with dialysis ailment to stop going to either Bauchi or Yobe state for treatment.
Yahya also advocated the release of funds for under the Save-OneMillion-Lives, saying the fund would go a long way in reducing maternal and newborn death in the state. While responding, the Permanent Secretary, Gombe state Ministry of Health, Hajiya Laraba Kawu, commended the group for making a difference in the lives of indigenes of Gombe state, particularly in the health sector.
The Permanent Secretary pointed out that it was not ideal for patients to go to neighboring states for dialysis despite availability of two big health facilities in the state. “More so that you have taken it upon yourself to write the state governor to release some of the approvals made to the ministry in relation to dialysis machines which are very important in the treatment of patients in Gombe state”.
She assured to partner with the Civil Society Organisations towards tackling problems related to maternal, newborn and child health in the state
