NDLEA vows to cleanse Anambra of illicit drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra state, Tuesday, sought partnership with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and other stakeholders to win the war against drug abuse.

The state NDLEA commander, Mr Daniel Onyeisi, stated this at an advocacy event held in Awka, the Anambra state capital, tagged a one-day stakeholders strategic advocacy/ seminar on drug abuse: put together by the NDLEA in partnership with Advocates for Global Peace Forum International.

Onyeisi stated that the event was part of his mandate to clean up the state of illicit drugs and reduce cases of drug abuse from the grassroots to the top.

“We bring the youth who are most susceptible to drug abuse, from the local areas. At this event, we have representatives of youth groups deliberating with us on how we can get down to the communities, the villages, the wards, the schools and make sure this message is loud and effective for youth to shun drug abuse. The essence is to bring everybody on board to ensure a holistic approach towards addressing issues of drug abuse.

“We also saw key stakeholders promise to support us with the sponsorship and advancement of this course at the grassroots. The youth also pledged their unflinching support to the initiative. With this, the war is already won because if we can get these young people who are most prone to abuse of hard drugs and other substances, commit to drug-free society, then there is no more challenge,” he added.
