Navy averts inferno, rescues UTC shopping plaza in Abuja

Operatives of Nigerian Navy (NN) Firemen, a sub-unit of Naval Headquarters, Garki, Monday said it averted and rescued UTC, a popular shopping plaza from massive inferno located in Garki, Abuja.

The statement by the director of information, NN, Commodore Aiwuyor Aliu,  Tuesday, stated that the fire men were called to action Monday and to avert what would have been a massive inferno at the popular UTC Shopping Plaza in Garki.

According to the statement, “an eyewitness reports said  an electric spark in one of the plaza shops ignited the fire outbreak with the potential to consume many other shops and properties.

“As the fire surged, the NN FireMen were called in to assist the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the National Defence College (NDC) Fire Service in putting down the fire.

“On arrival, the NN FireMen swung into action and the situation was brought under control,” he said.

He revealed that no casualties and no lives was lost.

“Thankfully, lives were not lost and damage to properties were  limited,” Aliu said.
