National anti-corruption marathon race postponed

The 5th edition of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon race has been postponed due to another marathon holding in Abuja on the same day.

The meet was initially scheduled to hold on World Anti-Corruption Day, Saturday December 9 in Abuja but will now take place “as early as possible”

The National Co-Ordinator, Jacob Onu,  released a statement concerning the postponement of the event.

“The postponement is due to circumstances beyond the control of the National Anti Corruption Marathon race. It is not in our character. All inconveniences caused by this change is highly regretted. We have contacted all our athletes and notified them about the change of plan. It is quite unfortunate” Onu said in the statement made available to Blueprint correspondent.

“The Nigerian Army –they are having their own marathon on the same day. We cannot inconvenience Abuja residents too much because all the major roads will be partially blocked. Most importantly, all our dignitaries that are expected to flag off our marathon are also invited for the COAS marathon. They include top government functionaries and several business mogul who have indicted their interest to participate in the race” Onu stated

Entries for the event have been extended to accommodate those that have not been able to send complete their registration formalities on the official portal of the organisation.

For the past four years the National- Anti Corruption Marathon race has been holding in Abuja on December 9th . The race normally started at the Eagles Square through National Stadium and terminates at the Unity Fountain. The race is always preceded by National Youth and Students Summit on Anti-Corruption on Drug Abuse at Nile University a day before the race properly.
