By Baba Yusuf Abuja

A Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has described the silence of National Assembly over issues that concern Fulani pastoralist, as unfortunate. Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Malam Yusuf Musa Ardo, said the group is accusing the House of Representatives and the Senate for refusing toenact law on Grazing Reserve Commission Bill that is before them. According to him, if the bill is passed, it would reduce the tension in the country, as the Fulani would now have a proper way of grazing their cows without entering into farmers’ area that always bring about crisis.

“We are calling on the NASS’ leadership to do something about the Grazing Reserve Commission Bill. Th ey are supposed to look into it and pass it along with some bills the pass recently butthey failed to do so for selfi sh interest. “If they have the Fulani and the nation at heart, we would not be calling for the same issues at all time. We want to move away from peasant way of grazing to modern way because we contributed to the growth of Nigeria economy. Ardo said further that the bill is the only way of bringing peace in the country between farmers and Fulani, adding that the NASS should not be silent about the bill.

“Th ey are there to make laws for Nigerians and Nigeria, Fulanis are part of Nigerians. We have population of about 50 million, we see no reason why the bill would be treated that way, unless if they are enjoying the killings and destruction that has been taking place in Bembumambilla in Taraba state, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna and other places in the country. So, it is time for them to pass the bill for the purpose of peace and unity in Nigeria”. He stated.
