The president of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) and Wife of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Mrs Mariya T. A. Lagbaja, Monday commissioned a 25,000-litre borehole for 60 families in Maimalari Cantonment.
She also laid the foundation stone of a Skills Acquisition and Training Centre for families of officers and soldiers of Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
The project was initiated by the leadership of the Nigeria Army 7 Division, NAOWA chapter, Maiduguri, chaired by Mrs. Amina Peter Malla as part of activities marking the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference held in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
While laying the foundation stone, Mrs Lagbaja expressed her profound gratitude and appreciation as she could not hide her excitement and delight with the projects.
She joined other wives of the officers and soldiers to sing and dance to ‘water is Life’song.
The wife of the COAS also said she commissioned the projects for the betterment of humanity.
The Chief of Staff (COS) of Maimalari Cantonment, Maidugiri, Engineering Brigade, 7 Div NA, Col. R.B Ajao, said the skills acquisition and training centre will make positive impact on the members of the community and its environs, particularly, members of the families of officers and soldiers at the cantonment.
The event was said to be the collective resolve of the leadership of NAOWA to continue to seek ways to empower families of officers and soldiers with requisite skills to make a decent living for themselves and in turn impact positively on their immediate community and environs.
A member of the NAOWA, Mrs Eunice Oladoyin, commended NAOWA for its intervention saying that the project will go a long way in bringing succor to the people, especially the beneficiaries.
