NACEL/COSAT: Army begins environmental exercise across Nigeria

As part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NACEL) and Combat Support Arms Training week (COSAT), personnel of the Nigerian Army have begun environmental sanitation in their various units and formations across the country.

Within the 81 Division area of responsibility, the personnel conducted environmental sanitation at Idumota market, Lagos island, Sabo Ikorodo and Ipodo  Ikeja areas of Lagos state.

According to army spokesperson, Col. sagir Musa, army personnel engaged in  sweeping of dirt on the streets, evacuation of  refuse dumps, excavation and evacuation of blocked drainages and gutters in the areas.

“Many senior Army officers and soldiers especially from 81 Division Area of Responsibility are on the ground patriotically performing the annual exercise to the admiration and commendation of the public,” Musa said.

Also at the  82 Division Enugu early Saturday, troops came out emmass to clean and cleared water passage, weeded grasses and swept “New Haven” area. This was also as Nigerian Army personnel in the 6 Division which has its headquarters in Port Harcourt did environmental sanitation at Ruomokoro in Abia/Akpor local government area of Rivers state.

In Abuja, to mark this year’s celebration, the Army Headquarters Garrison conducted environmental sanitation and opened service lane from AYA towards Nyanya by Sunrise Estate which has been reduced to one lane by land slide, making it prone to accidents.

The Nigerian Army commenced the 2019 NACEL/ COSAT week with Press Conference hosted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buarai, at the Military Command and Control Centre of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maiduguri, Borno state.

Other activities for the week-long event holding in Lagos also include, free medical outreach, interdenominational church services, Juma’at service, among others.

The NACEL is an annual event that comes up on 6 July every year. This year’s celebration is unique as it was combined with COSAT week.

The sanitation exercise and similar humanitarian activities is  expected to enhance existing Civil-Military relations between various units and formations and their host communities.
