Memo to Nigeria’s leaders

I would like to start by congratulating you for winning the trust of the electorate, which resulted in finding yourselves in the positions you are holding and to call on your attention to the core responsibilities, people’s mandates, shouldered upon you, which are expected to be delivered to the best of your ability.

In the past, leaders were accused of diverting funds and materials that were meant for the public good, inducing a detrimental impact on the progress and development of the country. As entrusted leaders, it is your solemn duty to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and service to the people; breaking free from this cycle of corruption and mismanagement is the key to seeing Nigeria of our dream.

They appear insurmountable but are surmountable if you are committed and determined to face the challenges bedeviling our country, ranging from economic hardship to social inequalities and most especially security concerns. As a result, working tirelessly to attack these issues with full force by seeking innovative and inclusive solutions to them, regardless of their background or status, is duty-bound upon you.

Furthermore, promoting unity among the diverse ethno-religious and cultural groups within the country should be at the forefront of your agenda. This is because a united Nigeria is a stronger Nigeria, capable of overcoming any obstacle that stands in its way.

Investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructural development is not merely an option but an absolute necessity. These pertinent pillars are what form the foundation upon which a prosperous and thriving society is built. By giving much attention to these areas of major concern, you will not only improve the lives of your constituents but also pave the way for a brighter future for generations to come.

In a nutshell, the legacy you leave behind will be a testament to your commitment to the Nigerian people. So, let it be one of progress, unity, and prosperity. The time for action is now, and the hopes and dreams of millions rest in your capable hands. Please, lead with purpose, and lead for the betterment of Nigeria.
