Medvedev triumphs over Federer conqueror Zverev, wins Shanghai Masters

German Alexander Zverev, who beat Roger Federer in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters fell short at the final on Sunday, collapsing to a 4-6 1-6 loss to towering Russian Daniil Medvedev.

It was 1.98 metres tall Medvedev’s fourth title of a spectacular year, winning back-to-back ATP 1000 Masters titles.He also won the Cincinnati Masters, defeating David Goffin.

Victory for the 23-year-old Russian, contesting a sixth final in a row, was more evidence that he is the prime contender to join the “Big Three” of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

The US Open finalist is also able to say that he has finally beaten the German Zverev, another young contender at 22, at the fifth attempt.
