Man docked for stealing N.6m gold watch, others

A job applicant, John Mallum, was Monday docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing goods valued at N645,000.

The 20-year-old applicant, who resides at Gbagada, Lagos, was charged on two counts of burglary and stealing, but he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, said the defendant committed the offences on Ramat Olukemi Street, Medina Estate, Gbagada, on October 10.

Ihiehie alleged that the defendant broke into the apartment of the complainant, Mrs Adenike Laja, and stole international passport valued at N80, 000, which contained a British visa valued at N200,000.

He alleged that Mallum also stole a gold wristwatch worth N120, 000, a HP monitor valued at N40,000, a Blackberry phone worth N130, 000,  five pieces of cloth valued at N25,000, and waterbed mattress worth N50,000.

Ihiehie told the court that the complainant, who caught the defendant as he came out of her apartment, raised an alarm but the defendant ran away.

He said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje said the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of tax payment to Lagos state government.

He adjourned the case until October 22 for trial. (NAN)
