Man bags 5 years for stealing motorcycle

A Minna Chief Magistrate’s Court III has sentenced a man, Gideon Ekechukwu, to five years in prison, without option of fine, for stealing a motorcycle while disguising as a woman by wearing rijab garment meant for women alone.
Gideon, who was arraigned at the court on a three-count charge on Thursday last week, pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal trespass, house-breaking and theft after which he was tried summarily.
However, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Hassan Mohammed, convicted but suspended the sentence till Friday when he handed over the five years jail to the suspect.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Bassa, had urged the court to summarily try the suspect in accordance with Section 157 Penal Code Law having pleaded guilty to the offense.
The convict was said to have stolen a Jinchen motorcycle in Dutse Kura Gwari area of Minna belonging to one Mohammed Idris before he was caught.
He pretended to be a woman in the rijab garment bout could not beat the eagle eyes of the people who responded to the alarm raised by the owner of the motorcycle.
He was also said to have broke into more than five houses stealing properties worth over N10 million, including washing machine, plasma TV, 135 crates of eggs and generators.
