LG polls: Oyo declares Friday half working day

 

Governor Seyi Makinde Thursday approved the declaration of Friday, April 26, 2024 as a half working day for all public and civil servants in the state.

A circular signed by the secretary to the Oyo state government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, said the half working day ” is in connection with the local government election slated for Saturday, April 27, 2024. 

“Oyo state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has approved the declaration of Friday, April 26, 2024, as a half working day for all public and civil servants in the state.This is in connection with the local government election slated for Saturday, April 28, 2024,” it said. 

The circular added: “Government offices are to close by 12 noon while personnel covering essential services are expected to remain at their duty posts.”

Oyo state government, in the circular, enjoined all public and civil servants to go out and exercise their civic rights on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has said 15,000 security personnel have been engaged to ensure the security of lives and properties on Saturday’s local government poll in the state.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the chairman of the Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), said the security personnel will comprise of  men from Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), and Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) among others.
