Land owner docked for alleged breach of trust, cheating

A land owner was yesterday charged to an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting N250,000 under false pretence of selling a plot of land to a prospective buyer.

Th e court was told that Th e land owner, the court was told, allegedly acted in utter disdain to the rule of the land, and also deliberately sorts to extort the victim. According to the Prosecutor, Inspector James Odaodu, the accused, Alade Usman, on October 7, 2015, collected the money for the plot of land from one Ayamolowo David and promised to sale a plot of land to him.

However, the prosecutor said that the accused neither provided the complainant the plot of land nor refunded his money adding although the accused wrote a letter of undertaking, promising to pay on February 28, but failed to do so. He said the accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, contrary to Sections 312 and 322 of Penal Code Law of Kwara. Th e Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Adeyanju, granted the accused N50, 000 bail and two sureties in like sum. He adjourned the case to May 20 for further mention.”
