Kogi poll: Osike tasks gov-elect on democracy dividends

A former governorship candidate on the platform of the defunct Nigerians Peoples Party (NPP) in old Kwara state, Chief Haruna Ahmed Osike, has tasked the Kogi state governor-elect, Usman Ahmed Ododo, to consolidate on the numerous achievements of the current administration, especially in the area of women and youth empowerment.

Osike gave the charge in a congratulatory message he personally signed in Lokoja on Friday.

He described the peaceful and orderly conduct of the people during the last Saturday off-cycle governorship election as “impressive” and expressed optimism that the support would continue to translate into gains of democracy for the entire state.

While appreciating the people of Kogi Central, West and some parts of Eastern senatorial district for their massive support for the APC, Chief Osike urged the Ododo to ensure that the dividends of democracy spread across the three senatorial districts to justify the total support the people gave to him.

“This type of support has never happened before in Kogi state. The people of Kogi west had three of their kinsmen as candidates of other political parties in the election, but they gave their total support to the APC candidate Usman Ahmed Ododo because they believed in him and entrusted him with their mandate.

“I am using this medium to appeal to the governor-elect to consolidate on the landmark achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello, especially in the areas of security, education, health, agriculture among others,” he said via the statement.

Chief Osike, who is also a community leader and a human rights activist, also called on the people to give Ododo their maximum support, noting that the governor-elect represents Kogi Agenda.
