Karu residents decry poor state of infrastructure

Residents of New Karu local government area of neighbouring Nasarawa state have urged the re-elected Governor of the state,Tanko Umar Al-Makura, to beam his searchlight on infrastructure development in the area as he assumes office for his second round.
Although a cross-section of the residents congratulated the governor on his re-election, they still picked holes in his inability to accord the area what they termed “the desired attention, especially in terms of roads construction and water supply.”
Spokesman of the Concerned Karu Residents (CKR), Alhaji Taminu Adamu, contended that while satellite towns like Mararaba ,New Karu and Masaka had remained the commercial life wire and abodes for those who work for government in the Federal Capital  City(FCC),the towns also served as the major revenue generator for the state government hence the need for them to be upgraded to the International Cities Standards(ICS).

The residents lamented a situation whereby a fast growing town such as Masaka with a major Market that generates high revenue for the state, cannot boast of a single street being constructed by the government authorities.
Adamu said: “It baffles some of us that successive administrations have come and gone, with none of them given consideration to infrastructural development in these areas.

“These areas that I mentioned, apart from generating revenue for the government, have the highest population of workers. Therefore, it is just wise for any discerning leader to give attention to them in order to make life convenient and meaningful to the residents.”
On the same page, the district head of Mararaba Guruku, HRH Gambo Allahyahi (Sa’Mararabayi) is equally concerned that Mararaba, a cosmopolitan town harbouring very sensitive commercial outfits that generate revenue for the state, had not been accorded enough attention.
He bemoaned that the town with the history of being the fastest growing in West Africa lacks the basic social amenities.
Gambo appealed to Al-Makura to move his train of development towards their direction in this second term. Governor Al-Makura was re-elected into the office for the second term in a keenly contested election on April 11.
