Karlson Emefiele, family debunk media reports, deny relationship with suspended CBN governor

Mr Karlson Emefiele, an elderly man in the Emefiele family, Delta state, has debunked viral media reports on the allegations of perpetration of illegalities with the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele.

In a statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja, Thursday, Karlson stated that the earlier publication by media houses was a misrepresentation of facts and that it was aimed to launder the image of the family.

According to him, he was only trying to put the record straight that Dr Emefiele Christopher and his family members are not related by blood with the suspended CBN governor.

He said the Emefiele family from Ogbe- Iwaseh, Agbor-Obi in Delta State came from Late Pa Emefiele Arose, who died in 1981.

He said Pa Emefiele gave birth to four sons, including late Pa Elder Roland Konyeri Emefiele, a retired teacher at Onika Primary School Agbor-Obi Delta State, who was called to eternal glory in February 2017.

He said the second son, Late Pa Bishop James Ihienonukwu Emefiele, a retired teacher at Ime-Obi secondary School, Agbor- Obi, Delta, who died in February 2022, was the father of Chukuma Karlson Emefiele, resident in the United Kingdom.

The third son, Late Pa Apostle Godwin Nwaka Emefiele, a teacher at Mary Mount College Boji Boji Agbor, Delta State, who died in April 1989, was the father of Christopher Emefiele, an accomplished international businessman setting the pace in Real Estate development in Abuja and in different parts of the world.

The fourth son, Late Pa Paul Onyema Emefiele, was a retired civil servant at Code of Conduct Bureau, Abuja and passed onto eternal glory in February 2017.

He said: “Let it be known to all media houses, journalists and government institutions that Dr Christopher is not related to Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN Governor by blood.

“We are very different and distinct Emefiele families. It is simply names resemblance, just like having Abdul and Abdul from the same state. We just happened to hail from Agbor, but from different villages.

“Dr Christopher Emefiele hails from the village of OGBE- IWASEH, whereas Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN Governor, hails from ALIAGWA, and there is no blood link between the two Emefiele families.”

According to him, it is morally and ethically wrong for journalists to write and disseminate incorrect information both in print and online about individuals, Chukuma Emefiele or his siblings

He said he had never met Mr Godwin Emefiele, before, during and after his suspension as CBN Governor.

He said for journalist to disseminate false information about Mr Chukuma Emefiele, his siblings and cousin resident in United Kingdom as conduit for Mr Godwin Emefiele to siphon money out of Nigeria is very wrong, totally misguided, unacceptable and condemnable.
