Kano proposes N197bn for 2020

The Kano state government has proposed to spend the whooping sum of N197,683,353,659 for the year 2020 fiscal year.

According to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while presenting the proposal to the State House of Assembly in Kano Thursday, out of the proposed total amount of the budget, the sum of N79,972,726,778 was meant for recurrent expenditure.

He also the sum of N117,710,626,881 has been earmarked as capital expenditure in addition to projecting a total revenue lower than that of the year 2019.

Giving the breakdown of the sectoral allocations as contained in the budget proposal and also in line with his administration’s areas of priority attention, Ganduje said education got the lion share of the budget, amounting to the tune of N49.9 billion, followed by Health which got the  sum of N30.7 billon.

He however, stated that agriculture, being the main stay of every promising economy  has secured the sum of N5.4 billion while the bureau for Land Management has been allocated the sum of N3.6billion while water resources got the sum of N115billion with environmental protection securing the sum of N3.3 billion respectively.

The budget according to the governor was tagged; “2020 budget of  sustainable development” in view of his administration’s flair to propel Kano to the next level and consolidate the gains so far put on ground as part of the much pronounced dividend of democracy pointing out that the giant strides he had effected was as a result of commitment to the quest for good governance and effective service delivery.

He said his government would be consistent in maintaining an effective and formidable  base of generating Internal revenue to  enhance his resolve of serving humanity with vigour affirming that the effort and commitment of notable International development partners had greatly heightened the resolve of his administration to forge ahead.

In his response, the Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdul-aziz Garba Gafasa, said the Kano legislative body was able to achieve an unprecedented feats in the last five months of its inauguration as the 9th Assembly adding that  the workings of the legislative body can only be enhanced and sustain with good rapport between the legislature and the executive arm.

He however, stated that  with sustained commitment and high level of cooperation between the  legislature and the executive arms, nothing can stand as a cog in the wheel of entrenching the concept of good governance in a democratic setting, stressing that it was  the responsibility of every citizen of Kano State to strive and work towards achieving the desired goals.
