Kano information commissioner bags media icon award

The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, has received the Award of Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria.

Garba received the award at a ceremony held on thursday at the Muson Center, Onikan, Lagos.

Other recipients of the prestigious award included the Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Chief Sam Amuka, Chairman of DAAR Communications Chief Raymond, Dokpesi that of Channels Television, John Momoh, and Publisher of Daily Trust Newspapers, Kabiru Yusuf.

Chairman of the occasion, former Governor of Ogun State and Veteran Journalist,  Segun Osoba, said the annual media event which was designed by the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), would among others, be honouring top-flight media entrepreneurs who had invested their time, talent and treasures in the media industry.

Chief Osoba then called for the establishment of an active website for registered Journalists in Nigeria as a means of checking intruders.

In his remarks,President of NUJ,  Chris Isiguzu,said the recognition was not just for media entrepreneurs alone but also for professionals who had distinguished themselves in the course of their respective duties.

Isiguzo said the NUJ had mapped out strategies to be building the capacity of Journalists in the country for enhanced professionalism.

Dokpesi who spoke on behalf of the recipients, lamented the poor welfare package for Journalists in the country and called for the reversal of the unfortunate trend.
