Kaduna Sports Festival: Ayomide, Rachael win sprint triple gold medals

Ayomide Oyetunji and Rachael Bernard won the 100m and 200m sprint doubles men and women respectively, as Chikun local government swept seven of the eight short sprint gold medals at the Kaduna state Sports Festival. 

The Ahmadu Bello Stadium Mondo track was on fire on Wednesday as Ayomide Oyetunji of Chikun LGA ran a blistering 10.4secs to win the blue ribald 100m ahead of Moses Onuche also of Chikun (10.6secs) and Salisu Mohammed of Zango Kataf who also ran 10.6secs to win bronze. 

Rachael Bernard also of Chikun LGA led the women 100m with 11.8sec, Taiye Ogundele of Kajuru LGA ran 12.3secs to win silver, while Blessing Ikpa ran 12.6secs to win bronze medal. 

Ayomide Oyetunji returned to win the men 200m with a scorching 21:00secs, Collins Eze of Jema’a LGA ran 21:6secs to win silver medal, while youth sprint sensation and Kaduna state U-17 champion, Ogazi Samuel of Kaduna North LGA ran 21:7secs to win bronze. Ogazi Samuel had ran 11.1secs to place sixth in the 100m. 

Rachael Bernard ran 25.4secs to ensure her sprint double beating Taiye Ogundele again (25.8secs) and Udoro Udonaqak of Jema’a LGA who ran 26.3secs to place third. 

Ayomide Oyetunji and Rachael Bernard later anchored the Chikun 4x100m male and female teams respectively to another pair of relay gold medals. Giwa LGA won the silver medal and Kagarko LGA placed third in the 4x100m men relay, while Jema’a LGA came second and Zango Kataf LGA won the bronze medal in the women 4×100 relay.
