Rivers: RIWAMA boss targets recycling plant for waste management 

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Sanitation, Prince Obi Ohia, has brought the message of cleanliness and a clean environment to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital in Port Harcourt as part of World Hand Hygiene Day activities.

Addressing medical students as a special guest, Hon. Prince Ohia JP underscored the importance of proper hygiene and highlighted the state government’s commitment to ensuring a clean environment.

He outlined the government’s initiative, which involves citizens collecting waste and depositing it in designated receptacles placed throughout streets and communities, with service providers responsible for its evacuation to dump sites.

He expressed concern over some residents’ failure to adhere to designated dumping times, which hampers service providers’ efforts.

The governor’s aide stated that the ongoing discussions with Finnish authorities and representatives from Arab countries is  to establish a recycling plant aimed at both waste transformation and revenue generation for the government and citizens.

The event also featured remarks from a representative of the Commissioner for Health and Ministry of Water Resources.

Hon. Ohia’s entourage included the Director of Administration, Marvin Abbey, the Director of Finance and Accounts, the Director of Public Health, the chairman of the taskforce, and others.

Prior to this, Hon. Ohia and his team met with the vice chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, and they emphasised the importance of restoring Port Harcourt to its original status as the Garden City.
