Former Chief Judge of Adamawa state, Justice Bamari Bansi, has called on the executive and the legislative arms of government in the country to stop regarding the judiciary as an enemy.
He said the judiciary should be looked at as partner in progress, if democracy must survive.
He stated this in Yola in his remarks while speaking at 2023 law week, organised by the Yola branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
He frowned at the treatment being meted to the judiciary by other arms of governments saying that the judiciary has fared better under military rule than civilian administrations.
He singled out Nyakos administration as the best ever in the history of the state since the restoration of democracy in 1999, in terms of commitment towards the betterment and welfare of judicial officers in the state and called for upward review of pension and gratuity of judicial officers, among other better working conditions.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by the state Commissioner for Reconstruction, Reintegration and Rehabilitation, Bello Haman Diram, thanked the judiciary for their roles in the society, especially during the 2023 election and various election petitions that followed and solicits for their continued support for his administration, especially in the fight against crime.
He said his administration has made huge provisions in 2024 budget to make the judiciary fare better assuring that government will look into their challenges with the view to proffer solutions.
