The National Population Commission [NPC] Jigawa state office has said it is collaborating with the United Nations Children Education Fund [UNICEF] to conduct the birth registration of under five children during the enumeration area demarcation [EAD] exercise in the state with Kiyawa as selected local government area of the state.
Federal commissioner representing the state, Muhammad Aliyu who stated this during a press briefing in Dutse said there was the need for the media to engage on enlightenment on the next round of enumeration area demarcation Phase 8, which commenced from 30th of June and ending 23rd of July, 2019.
He said this will pave the way for the successful conduct of the national head count which will assist the commission in coming out with reliable and acceptable census results.
The commissioner explained that the commission was pleased with the collaboration with the Independent Electoral Commission [INEC] that has helped them produce base maps against the backdrop of INEC registration area boundaries.
He stated that population census was the enumeration of all persons resident in a country or a well defined geographic unit at a particular time in order to effectively enumerate all those within a reasonable period.
“To us at a commission, the significance of the EAD exercise goes beyond the conduct of census. We plan to establish and maintain a national frame, including locality list and house numbering for future censuses and surveys in line with the mandate of the commission under the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended),’’ Gumel stated.
