I’ve no hand in offenders’ arrest – Matawalle

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has debunked allegations by people he described as mischief-makers that he sponsored the arrest of some offenders in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the special adviser to the governor on media and publicity, Zailani Bappa and made available to Blueprint in Gusau Tuesday.

“It has come to the notice of Governor Bello Mohammed that some mischievous persons in the state are alluding the arrest of offenders to his person, or his office, or both and I have no hands in the arrest of any offender within and outside the state,” Matawalle stated.

The governor further cautioned that anyone who finds himself in collusion course with the law should courageously face his travails and desist from playing blame game with his office.

“The police and, indeed, all other security operatives are not my property, nor are they working for my personal interest but for the well being of Zamfara state and Nigeria as a whole,” the governor stated.

He said, for a while some enemies of the state and Nigeria had indulged in making inflammatory statements and, sometimes, in actions aimed at reversing the hands of the clock.

He stated that those arrested and taken to court have willingly broken the law and were apprehended by the law, not by him, saying they should be courageous enough to own up to their mischief and defend themselves before the law.
