I’ve no ‘axe to grind’ with Ganduje, Sanusi tells lawmakers

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said the Kano emirate has no axe to grind with the state government and that the council is ready to work towards the development of Kano in the present democratic dispensation.

Addressing members of the Kano State House of Assembly, led by the speaker of the house, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Garba Gafasa who were on a courtesy visit to the emir’s palaceTuesday, Sanusi stated that the state government under governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had in the last two years entrusted him with the task of seeking ways and means to revitilise the industrial profile of Kano.

He said his mission to China in that regard had open the gate for the state government to take a complete inventory of what is most needed in effecting such an industrial revolution in Kano.

He however, stated that no state in the country could ever develop with its industries folding-up, adding that a concerted effort has to be made to ensure that viable avenues for employment were created.

Turning to the legislatures on the responsibility bestowed on their shoulders by the electorates, the monarch charged them to be diligent and committed in fulfilling such a responsibility.

He said “the inscription you are seeing here today in this hall is pointing to the fact that as leaders, you are expected to be spectacularly honest and have the fear of God in whatever you are doing.

“You should all remember that you will one day die and buried in your graves and be made to account for your deeds, while in the saddle of authority,” he said

“I also want to tell you that, you and i and everybody are not immune to such investigation by God who created us to serve humanity as leader. We will be made to account for our deeds and we will also be judged by posterity for being at the helm of affairs and what we did whether it KS good or bad, will be the legacy we will all leave behind,” he said

“I also want you to know that we have also given our contribution along with other notable opinion leaders on the issue of presenting a bill for marriage which a copy will soon be sent you for your perusal and consideration.

“We want some gray areas to be cleared. We are serious on achieving such objectives by the grace of God, ”

Speaking earlier, the speaker of the assembly, said they were at the palace to seek the monarch’s blessing on way to develop Kano in the present democratic dispensation, in addition to introducing the principal officers of the house.
