Insecurity: Zamfara adopts community engagement

Zamfara state government is set to introduce community engagement policy in order to find lasting solution to security challenges in the state.
This was made known by the state Governor, Alh.
Abdulaziz Yari, when he paid Sallah homage to Emirs of Bakura and Maradun at their palaces yesterday.
According to him, stakeholders, including religious leaders, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, youths and communities will be involved in the community policy.
He said, consultations would be held between the state government and community engagement groups to fashion out the problems and ways to address them with a view to ensuring enduring peace in the state.
Governor Yari, who expressed dissatisfaction with the way security agencies in the state handle security issues, said his administration had spent over N15 billion on security from 2011 to date but lamented the attacks on innocent people by a group of armed bandits across the 14 local government councils of the state.
“ I was discussing with Borno state governor on the level of his logistic to security agencies in his state, he told me that he donated 300 vehicles to them between 2011 to date for fighting Boko Haram.
I told him that I bought over 500 vehicles for them in six years to fight armed banditry in my state and I wonder why Zamfara killing became widespread day and night up to now,” Yari stated.
He cautioned that the community engagement policy must be sustained and anybody found sabotaging it will be sanctioned, irrespective of his position in the state.
“ W e will not condone any form of sabotage of this system because we learnt that these dreaded groups are working hand in hand with some unpatriotic people among us to attack our people.
So anyone found wanting or trying to be their informant or helping the dreaded group in one way or the other, be it traditional ruler, religious leader, civil society organisation, government official and so on, will face the wrath of the law,” Yari contended.
The governor also appealed to the federal government to assist his administration by sending more troops to combat the criminal elements in thexstate
